Christmas is the time of year when we reflect on everything that is wonderful in our lives. The spirit of the season comes upon us and the world seems to become a little less stressful. Old Christmas music begins to play and folks start to sing along and smile. Holiday greetings are all around and great big fluffy snowflakes fall from above. Christmas is much more than presents under the tree, it is about the good that humanity does for one another. Christmas is the time to reflect on what we have done throughout the year.
Have we focused too much on the incidentals? Has our need for success taken precedence over spending time with loved ones? Have we done enough to enrich the very fiber of our beings? Sometimes we forget to slow down and take in the simple joys that exist all around us. We let the days slip through our fingers and realize too late that those moments have already passed. Kindness for others will bring kindness into our own lives. Bring joy to someone else and joy will fill your own heart. If you do not believe me, maybe some words from Ebenezer Scrooge will suffice :
“Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, benevolence, were all my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!”
― Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol
As you gather this year to celebrate the season, take a few moments to reflect on what fills your heart with joy. If you do, you will never lose.
