What to Bring to Your Tax Appointment

Tax Checklist

Gleason Tax Advisory is committed to making your tax filing as painless as possible. Our core approach is to make our clients Happier, Healthier and Less Stressed. With that in mind, we believe it is important to let you know what to bring to your tax appointment so we can prepare your tax return quickly and efficiently this year. Please follow these steps to get the most out of your tax appointment. Start compiling a list of documents you expect to receive based on the previous year’s tax return filed and anything that may have happened differently in the current tax year. If you are interested in having a comprehensive tax planner sent to you for next tax year, please let us know at your tax appointment, and we can sign you up to receive one via portal, email or snail mail.

Be sure to call us if you have any life-changing events throughout the year so we can plan for the new tax year. Proper planning can mean the difference between getting a refund and needing to owe.

Examples of life-changing events are:

It is important to have all personal information for those who will be claimed in the household on your tax return. Information required includes social security numbers, dates of birth, valid ID and documents pertaining to residency (if required).

We also need a copy of the last filed tax return as a guideline to prepare your current year’s return. Make sure to include all federal and state schedules and supplemental information so we know what has been done the previous year.

Every tax appointment is different depending on the household. We encourage our clients to contact us throughout the year to ensure we address anything that could affect future tax filings. Sharing this information with us will allow enough time to combat any tax issues before it is too late, will be important to your final tax bill and help you make an informed decision.

Make sure you have everything you need for your tax appointment. We look forward to seeing you soon.
