What our clients have to say…

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY TAX APPOINTMENT?

Being prepared helps make your tax appointment smoother and ensures we have the information needed to prepare your return accurately. Bring your photo ID, Social Security information, income documents such as W-2s and 1099s, and records for deductions, credits, investments, retirement income, health insurance, and any major life changes from the past year.

Own a business or work for yourself? You’ll also want to gather your income and expense records and other relevant business tax documents.

Not sure what applies to you? We’ve put together a complete checklist to help.

DO YOU HANDLE PRIOR RETURNS

Yes. If you have unfiled tax returns from previous years, we can help you get caught up. Bring any tax documents you have for the years that need to be filed, along with copies of any IRS or state notices you’ve received.

Missing documents? Don’t let that stop you from getting started. Schedule an appointment with Bruce to discuss your situation and determine the next steps.

CAN YOU HELP IF I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM THE IRS OR NY STATE?

Yes. If you’ve received a tax notice, don’t ignore it—and don’t assume it means you’ve done something wrong. Notices can be sent for many reasons, including questions about a return, missing information, changes to your account, or a balance due. IRS

Bring or securely upload a complete copy of the notice, along with any related tax documents. Bruce can review the notice, explain what it means, determine what action may be required, and help you respond appropriately. As an Enrolled Agent, Bruce is authorized to represent taxpayers before the IRS when representation is needed. IRS

Don’t wait—tax notices often include response deadlines.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO START MY TAX RETURN?

Book early—but choose an appointment date when you expect to have all of your tax paperwork ready.

Our tax-season calendar usually opens in December, and appointments fill quickly. If you typically receive all of your W-2s, 1099s and other tax documents by mid-February or March, go ahead and reserve an appointment for that timeframe as soon as scheduling opens.

Small business owners: If your bookkeeping is complete and your records are ready, feel free to schedule an earlier appointment.

The important thing is that your paperwork is complete by your appointment date. We’d rather prepare your return once, with everything we need, than have you come in before all of your documents have arrived.

And if you’re still waiting on information as the filing deadline approaches, that’s okay. We’re always happy to file an extension when appropriate.

Our calendar opens in December—plan ahead and book the date when you expect your tax documents to be ready.
